Lance Corporal Marks farewelled at private service

Lance Corporal Jason Marks, who was tragically killed in Afghanistan last week, was honoured in a funeral service held at Holsworthy Barracks yesterday evening.

Lance Corporal Marks was killed during Taliban fire while preparing to leave the Australian barracks in southern Afghanistan last Monday.

Family, friends and colleagues of Lance Corporal Marks came together to pay their respects to the soldier.

Both the Prime Minister and Defence Minister attended the service to pay tribute to Lance Corporal Marks.

“On behalf of the nation, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lance Corporal Jason Marks. His professionalism, courage and loyalty were true expressions of the ANZAC spirit”,” Mr Rudd said.

““I know that on this sad occasion, all Australians will remember and honour Jason, who served his nation so proudly.””

As the service concluded, a bugler played The Last Post in tribute to the passing of this true hero.

The soldier leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Lance Corporal Jason Marks was Australia’s fifth casualty in Afghanistan.
