Soldier from Parachute Regiment killed in Afghanistan

A soldier from the Parachute Regiment has died in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The soldier was killed on Tuesday by a suspected improvised explosive device. Next of kin have been informed.

The number of British military personnel killed on operations in Afghanistan since 2001 is now 243.

This death comes after a soldier from 3rd Battalion The Rifles also died on Tuesday, following a fire fight near Sangin, central Helmand Province.
