Two diggers wounded in Afghanistan

THREE soldiers, two Australians and an Afghan, have been wounded in an insurgent ambush in southern Afghanistan.

A joint patrol of members of the Afghan National Army and Australian instructors was hit by an improvised bomb on Monday.

The attackers followed up the explosion with small arms fire.

The wounded men were given first aid and flown to hospital at the Coalition base outside Tarin Kowt.

A Defence Force spokesman said the soldiers’ wounds were not life threatening and they were in a stable condition.

The attack brings to 90 the number of Australians wounded in Afghanistan. Eleven have been killed
