Canadian soldier killed by roadside bomb in Afghanistan
A Canadian soldier was killed in southern Afghanistan Sunday after one of two improvised explosive devices he was trying to defuse exploded, military officials said.
The explosion occurred just after noon in the Panjwaii district, which is about 20 kilometers southwest of Kandahar city, Canadian media reported from Afghanistan.
An Afghan police officer was also killed, and an Afghan interpreter was wounded.
It is the second Canadian death in Afghanistan in a week. Another soldier was killed last Monday when he stepped on an explosive device.
This latest death brings to 120 the total number of Canadian soldiers who have died during the Afghan mission since it began in2002.
